Family Week

September 26 – 30

This week we will continue talking about “Me” and will add family to our theme.  We will have a variety of activities that talk about family – your child’s family, friend’s families and animal families.

At the playdough table we will have animals and the children can make homes for the animals, in dramatics they will continue with the family / baby activities they were introduced to last week, in the blocks area they will have the vehicles and trains, there will be books about families in the library and at the table toys area they will have small blocks with more animals.  There will be oatmeal in the sensory table again this week as we had several toddlers who enjoyed snacking at the table.  😉

This is a great time to talk to your child about what they are doing (going to school) because they are getting bigger.  What do other people in your family do?  What do you like to do with your family?  What do you like to do by yourself?  In conversations with your child you can talk about what you all do together and what you do alone.  As you talk about activities that they do as a family, with their friends and when they are  alone you can also talk about feelings – happy, sad, brave, scared, etc.

For the Pre-3 children I will tell them they are being very brave as they adjust to being at school alone on your non-work day.  This is a time for them to practice self-soothing skills.  Some children will choose to be quiet and by themselves as they process, others will want to be held and some will want a special toy or something that reminds them of you.  As they get more secure with the school, and this new independence, they will feel a sense of pride as they develop confidence and the ability to separate from you successfully.

ME

I have 10 little fingers and 10 little toes

<hold up ten fingers>

Two little arms and one little nose

<raise arms and then point to nose>

One little mouth and two little ears
<point to mouth and ears>

Two little eyes for smiles and tears

<everyone smile>

One little head and two little feet
<shake head and feet>

One little chin;  that’s ME, complete!
<hold up arms>
